Pomeroy Kananaskis Lodge and Nordic Spa

Updated: Oct 25

Sometimes you just need to escape the craziness of life… and when you want to do that, you’ll want to visit Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge and Spa. There’s a reason I’ve indulged in this place many many times, and it’s simply because it lives up to its reputation.

This alpine resort is an hour out of Calgary in the scenic area of Kananaskis, and provides a luxurious stay that stands apart from some of the busier options you may find in Canmore or Banff. Instead of bustling streets and touristy areas, it instead offers a more private experience that is secluded from city-life (although this doesn’t mean it lacks any amenities). In the surrounding area there is a gorgeous golf-course, Boundary Ranch horseback riding (which was a lovely outing for one of the days), Nakiska Ski Resort, white water rafting, and (in my opinion) some of the world’s best hiking.

The check in process is quick and easy, and the rooms are lovely. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to see an edible arrangement prepared for me with personalized touches, and my room hardly felt like a “hotel room.” My room was spaced out between two floors, each with their one bathroom, and the entire back wall was a glass window (with remote curtains) that opened to an enchanting mountain view. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were even set up great for hosting friends for a game or drinks, with plenty of space and lots of seating options.

There are a few options for dining, and all of them were absolutely delicious. The brunch at Forte has a wide variety of options (with many gluten-free choices for my fellow celiacs), the Cedar Room has impressive fresh and home-grown options, and I was pleased with the drink options at the Blacktail Bar (of course I had to try a couple of their gin options).

However, one of the true treats to this location is their full-service Nordic Spa… and in my opinion if you’re going out of your way to stay on this resort, you absolutely need to make sure you’ve got a day booked here. There’s something tranquil about an outdoor spa nestled in nature, and after every visit I’ve always left feeling rested and rejuvenated. The Nordic Spa offers a variety of pools, saunas, and steam rooms to hop between, and each of them offers something unique. My personal favourite was the eucalyptus steam room and the essential oil sugar scrub shower. If you’re brave enough, you’ll also have to try one of the icy pools to wake you up... (But be prepared for quite the jolt, haha). And, if you can time your spa visit for a snowy day, I can almost guarantee you’re going to feel like you’re living in a movie scene as the love interest in a rom-com (this also makes for a lovely date with your partner as well, or gift to a loved one). Be sure to book this in advance though as there is limited availability.

If you’re looking for a vacation that gives you a well-needed reset, yet still has options for all levels of adventure, (and you’ve got it in your budget), Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge and Nordic Spa is that little slice of serenity you’ve been looking for.

Happy travels and enjoy your adventure!

Cheers,

Chloë
