One day, I’m casually scrolling through TikTok (as you do), and the next, I’m fervently searching the internet to find that unbelievably gorgeous, quaint seating area surrounded by a pool that I saw some girl dive into during her European travel vlog. Well, needless to say, BOOM—I found it (and better yet, I stayed there!!).
Slovenia is brimming with beauty, and that goes without saying. Each corner unveils new landscapes, diverse cultural influences, and unique experiences, making this country special in my eyes (my few months living here were truly unforgettable). However, one spot that specifically stood out to me in terms of natural beauty is Logar Valley, where you’ll find today’s special stay: Hotel Plesnik.
Hotel Plesnik epitomizes a relaxing wellness escape (and honestly, I think that’s something we could all use). Even the drive in is soothing. As I entered Logar Valley, the mountains opened up to a spectacular valley that looked like something from an opening scene of a movie. This narrow road leads you towards the mountains, past pastures of shaggy highland cows, and into the lush green land until you arrive at the little gem that is Hotel Plesnik.
Since Hotel Plesnik is removed from most civilization, parking is easy in their open lot, and you’re immediately serenaded by the songs of birds and the tranquility of nature. During check-in, we learned about Hotel Plesnik’s zero-waste vision, which aims to harmonize with nature in all their services. For instance, when ordering dinner (which is locally sourced!), you need to place your meal order ahead of time so the kitchen knows exactly how much to prepare, minimizing food waste—a commendable initiative in a hotel. They have received a Green Globe environmental award, which they consider a logical step, given their commitment to Ayurveda-based practices and environmental sustainability.
We stayed in the main building, which offered an impressive view of the wellness pool and the expansive, well-groomed fields. Since we visited in autumn, we were also treated to vibrant orange trees bordering the hills of the valley, which made for quite a sight (one comparable to that of a painting). Our room was quaint but perfect for everything we needed, with both a bathroom window facing the view and a balcony! The beds were very comfortable, and the interior design felt rustic yet welcoming, with wood accents and framed art complementing traditional elements in the decor. However, the real standout feature of this place was undoubtedly the wellness center.
We expected a pleasant stay, but we left feeling as if we had just experienced a spa retreat. The wellness center was simply spectacular, and I can see why it would be an ideal spot for a yoga or mindfulness retreat. Entering the wellness center, you’re greeted by 70s-inspired architecture paired with stone and fun designs. Inside, you’ll find a temperature-controlled room with a conversation (or relaxation) pit, a jacuzzi, several types of saunas, tea, refreshments, and more. The best part is that the entire rear-facing wall is actually a glass window that opens up to the view, which includes an unheated outdoor pool for cool dips or an icy swim if you’re up for it. This pool doesn’t use chemicals, and there are fish swimming in it that are surprisingly sizable—I was expecting goldfish! I’d definitely recommend a quick dip during your relaxation routine.
The next morning, we enjoyed an absolutely delicious buffet-style breakfast. There was a wide assortment of options, including many traditional Slovenian foods and drinks! My favourite was the fresh local young cheese topped with wild blueberry compote… I don’t know if that’s the usual way to eat it, but it was so good I still dream about it. Paired with a glass of elderflower juice and a side of bacon and eggs, it was nothing short of scrumptious. If you’re staying at Hotel Plesnik, I highly recommend dining at their restaurant because not only is their food amazing, but if you plan on eating elsewhere, you’ll have a considerable drive ahead of you unless you’re looking to try some fresh milk or meat products from a nearby vending machine (stocked by local farmers with cheeses, meats, ice cream, yogurt, and more!).
This is the type of place where it’s worth waking up as soon as the sun rises just to enjoy the serenity of the view or to take a peaceful stroll as the mist settles in the valley. Returning from our morning adventures, we were sad to check out because we wished we could have stayed longer. The location was stunning, the staff were lovely, the room was charming, the food was great, and the wellness center was truly memorable. I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary if you’re looking for a rejuvenating stay surrounded by the power and beauty of nature.
Happy travels and enjoy your adventure!
Cheers,
Chloë
